Two big announcements concerning the Goodwill House in Prince Albert were made today.

Goodwill House is now finished and officially for sale on the market with Advantage Real Estate Services.

Its builder, North Ridge Development, also announced it was able to raise $69,353.30 for the ICU at Victoria Hospital.

"The funds here today just came by free will of all the trades and supplies that we have, that worked on the house and supplied the house," said Stephen Pollock, general manager of North Ridge Development.

Rob Dalziel, executive director of the Victoria Hospital Foundation, said he was very pleased with the donation.

"This is huge, today they announced they had achieved the value of $69,353.30 towards that goal of equipping the ICU," said Dalziel. "The estimated cost to completely upgrade and replace equipment in the eight-bit ICU unit is in the order of about $200,000."

Dalziel said this is phase one of North Ridge Development to help raise funds for this ICU upgrade.

Pollock went on to say that there will be future Goodwill House projects coming up, like this one.

Talking about this project, Pollock said there was a lot of generosity shown on the part of tradespeople and suppliers while building this home.

"We built this house, we paid the tradespeople and they donated back to the hospital," said Pollock. "It wasn’t that if you’re going to be a part of this you need to donate everything, it was totally free will, everybody donated different amounts, and I think that just helped be the success of the project to what it’s all about."

A big surprise was that Duane Braaten from Advantage Real Estate had recently told Pollock that he’d like to sell the house on MLS® through Advantage and donate the real estate fees to the Victoria Hospital as well.

"Duane gave me a call and he said we’d also like to be involved in the project," said Pollock. "If the house sells with MLS® then they would like to donate part of the listing fees."

The house is built from pink wood which is flame and mold resistant.

The project was started in July.

Local business takes the lead as Gift of Mercy Fun Run sponsor

A healthy injection of cash has pushed Advantage Real Estate into first place as the major sponsor of the Gift of Mercy Fun Run.

The $1,500 donation will go towards those in need. Last year’s funds went towards organizations that provide basic human needs such as food, water and shelter. That includes the Prince Albert food bank and the YWCA Our House adult shelter.

Duane Braaten with Advantage handed over the cheque to organizers on Wednesday.

The 5th Annual Gift of Mercy Fun Run is a five or 10 kilometre run that will bring close to 100 people out to the Rotary Trail in Prince Albert on September 7. They’ve added a two-kilometre option this year as well.
